I need some educating on the subject of air cards and was hoping someone could help out. I may be wrong, but I was told previously that an air card, in a sense, is like a mini cell phone. The major difference is that the voice option on the card is turned off? (I heard it was possible to hack the air card and use it to talk until the service provider observes voice usage going through the roof and freezes the card?)

I know that depending on the service provider there may be some variation as far as what is captured and the retention periods, but if I am using an air card with a computer can I get some sort of detail records that will show what tower the card was communicating with? Also, if I disabled the card or disconnected from the service providers wireless manager and hooked up to a non secure or secure,” if I had the password”, Wi-Fi hot spot could that be tracked by the service provider as well? I know at work they track the websites we go to, but I wonder if this data is being recorded due to a request made by our department or is this normal practice?

If anyone has worked a case involving something like this and you wouldn’t mind me picking your brain sometime please let me know.

Many thanks!
