I noticed this from a syllabus at Champaign college.

"Each week you will be required to post two substantive discussion postings. The first will
be your response to the question for that week and the second will be your reaction from
what your peers wrote. That's where substantive comes into play; do not simply reply that
you agree or disagree, but explain your opinion. As Charlie McCabe of the San Francisco
Chronicle used to say, "Any clod can have the facts but having an opinion is an art."

Has anyone seen their forum?

I had taught in their online forensics classes. The forum is closed, only available to students within the class.

Lots of their students come to forums and ask questions, wouldn't it make sense to have people from forums come in and comment on their questions at their forum?

Students use the forums to post the answers to homework questions. Then the other students post follow up questions and comments based on the original post.

For example one question in the assignment gives a scenario and the student writes replies to questions about the scenario; has a crime occurred, if so what statutes in your local jurisdiction might apply. What information would you include in your probable cause affidavit.

The forums are also used to communicate with the instructor, and to send quiz and test answers to the instructor.

Champaign College? Where is that located? I have a feeling you mean Champlain College.

And I think that they are talking about discussions on their web portal. ie. Blackboard/WebCT/Pipeline ect. This is something that students log into the portal and see their classes and have dicussion boards within their specific class & section.

I am actually talking to a counselor from Champlain as well. I am still not sure. I just don't want to graduate from a diploma mill.

mutha - I understand what your saying, but Champlain is not that way, in my opinion. The school only has about 2000 students enrolled in the physical campus plus online students. The teachers get to know you personally, by name, attitude, and face. They are your friends, mentors, and professors.

Champlain has an NSA accredidation, and had Gary Kessler design the program for forensics. They still have many good teachers there and the program is developing nicely.

How do i know all this? I attended champlain where I got my BS in Computer and Digital Forensics. I did it in 2.5 years but i transfered in with my Associates degree. Will Champlain tech you everything you need to know? Certainly not, but nor will any school. You will learn a lot there depending on how driven you are and your desire to grow.

If i can answer any questions please feel free to post them here or send me a PM. BTW, Burlington VT is a great place to be!
