I know Windows does in registry but does Linux do similar? if so, where should I be looking? thanks

Yes I'd already read that article but the process seems longwinded. Is there nowhere I can just "look"?

Hello,
What have you tired so far? Are you familiar with grep? You can parse out information from some of logs like Syslog.
