Is it possible to trace the origin of a comment post on a blog site?

Is it possible to trace the origin of a comment post on a blog site?
Many blogs track this information and some will actually publish it with the posting (or convert it to geo data).
But, of course, whether you can get this information depends, more or less, upon the blog's operator and privacy laws in the hosting country.
