I have an iPhone 10.4 ios 14.4 from which I need to recover the call history. If I look at the handset I can see some call history but all of my tools show that they can recover everything else on the 'phone but show 'call history'as 0.

Any ideas anyone?

Do you have an iTunes backup?

 

Whats the content of call_history.db ? (Filename 2b2b0084a1bc3a5ac8c27afdf14afb42c61a19ca in backup)

For iOS14 (and iOS13) the backup would need to be encrypted.  
If the handset is not set to encrypt the backup, that is the likely reason the tools do not show any Call History
