The awesome people at Oxygen have helped fix an issue connecting iPhones and getting backups on the newest version of iTunes.
Apple left off a .dll file which is crucial to recognizing the phone.
If you open a ticket, they can email you this file which you place into
program files > common files > Apple > mobile device support.

Install the previous offline verison of iTunes, then do an upgrade to the current version and you will also have the file without having to open a ticket at oxy 🙂
