I hope someone doesn't mind answer a few quick questions for a laymen like myself, please?

I don't want to waste more of anyone's time than I really have to, so I'll ask my questions first, and then explain my use case / reasoning.

1. Could I use a Wiebetech UltraDock v5, to connect an antivirus USB to a family member's potentially infected PC and boot the system from the USB?

2. Would the USB remain safe to connect directly to my computer?

-------------

I'm the family tech guy. So I'm sometimes asked to check a laptop for a virus, or to do some other job that would require me to connect a USB stick to a computer outside of my control. Or sometimes I'm asked to lend someone a USB stick... which puts me in a difficult position. I want to be helpful to my loved ones but I don't want to put my own computer at risk by doing so.

I don't want to just say no all the time. I also don't want to keep buying cheap USB sticks, or burning optical discs for use with my external USB optical drive (which isn't entirely safe anyway). So I'm looking for a way of being able to reuse the storage media that I load with antivirus software or various other utilities, that will give me the peace of mind to be able to then subsequently reconnect the storage media to my own computer, without fear of catching something nasty.

I already have a device called an iODD 2531, which has a firmware level write blocker... but it doesn't pass Wiebetech's write blocker testing suite. Nor is it on NIST's list of approved devices. I do know where I can get a reasonably priced, used Wiebetech UltraDock v5 though. Before I buy it though, I'd like to know whether it can do what I want it to.

Thanks for humouring me.

I've just noticed I've made a mistake in my first post but it's too late to edit it. I've been looking at both USB and SATA write blockers, and I ended up mixing them up. So when I mention the "Wiebetech UltraDock v5", I should have said "CRU WiebeTech USB Writeblocker 3.1".
