"Locked" Palm m100

An employee suddenly departed and left behind a password-locked Palm M100 PDA Palm OS 3.0 device. (Yes, there are people still using those things). The unit has some critical business info on it. By design, without the password, the "locked" device must be "hard-reset", erasing all data. Batteries have been replaced with a fresh set, as per user guide, and the unit seems to be in working order, with memory intact. We tried several likely passwords, with no success.

Search of this forum turned nothing useful. What are our options, if any?
