Hi all,
I have a dreaded timezone question (please don't run away!)
I have a MacBook and when I arrived on scene, I photo's the screen as it was switched on and the taskbar stated the correct day and time (no date in the bar)
I imaged and extracted and all internet history corresponds with dates and times we need, however, when I booted the machine sans the hard disk to get the system time I got two different readings.
The first was with an install disk (several didn't work also) but the one that did told me it was xx oclock in PDT and out by the correct several hours. Which was OK, but why was it in PDT (was it coming from the disk)
The second time I did it was with the rEFit disk (latest 0.14 downloaded) and from the shell terminal I ran date then time and it reported the correct date, but the time was 10/11 hours out (taking into account our +1 summer. Yet the timezone was GMT? So its 10 hours out, but stating its GMT???
Its all very confusing! I tried a Helix and another Linux disc and both failed.
Anybody who has dealings with timezone settings will know my frustration, but I just can't understand why I'm getting conflicting times (and why Steve Jobs doesn't make it easy to get internal clock times!!! roll )
oh and before I forget, the plist for timezones states its GB / GMT London.
Any help mucho appreciated!
Re PDT form the install disk - Apple use PDT/PST during install by default (cos you know, Cupertino is the centre of the universe). You should see in the install logs on the system that the timestamps will all be in PDT/PST during the install process and it will all of a sudden change to the local time zone.
I can't explain the problem with rEFIt though…
Have you tried the options on this page? http//
Thanks for the reply.
It looks as if the internal clock might have been reset. I cloned the hard drive and put it in the mac to see if it reset via the OS to the time as now… and it switched on as the 11hour difference, so it does appear to have been reset. I'm wondering if leaving the battery out for a prolonged period has done something, or maybe removing the HDD? Its a 2004(ish) macbook, I would have thought the internal battery would still have a bit of life in it maybe?
Weird?
Hmmn very odd, I wouldn't have thought an internal clock reset would only set it 11 hours out…I would have thought it might set it way back (like years).
Being that old, I'm guessing its a powerPC mac- meaning that rEFIt should not have worked either way…
