Dear all

I've been asked by quite a few people recently if all companies should have Social Media Policies. Hence, I've produced a short 4 page article discussing this topic area.

If it's of interest you can downloaded a copy for free at http//tinyurl.com/36fa6gx

Any comments or suggestions please feel free to comment or contact me directly.

Kind regards

Hi Sam,

Well written and informative article. As you rightly point out, misuse of social media can be a major headache for any business.

Hi Sam

The approach we have implemented in our workplace is to provide a coaching page whenever a new browser session connects to a social networking site. The page contains the guidelines, policy links etc and has worked well so far.

Good article.

Agreed, here. We use the Squid caching proxy which has a rather robust ruleset for filtering URLs include search strings, etc. It can be configured to redirect users, either temporarily, or permanently, to pages which describe policies, require the user to "sign" an acknowledgement that they have be appraised of the policys, etc. Squid can even be configured to help spot the attempts to circumvent standard filters though constant vigilence is still required.
