I'm in the process of developing some acquisition/case management software.
I currently have a number of categories (below) to allocate the cases against however, I would appreciate some feedback from those in LE whether these are useful categories; or if any more should be added.

Hacking
Industrial espionage
Network attack
Organised Crime
Other illegal activity
Piracy
Pornography
Terrorism
Threats of Violence
A guide* that I have seen has them categorised as follows
- Sex Crimes
- Child Exploitation/Abuse
- Prostitution
- Crimes Against Persons
- Death
- Domestic Violence
- E-mail Threats/Harassment/Stalking
- Fraud/Other Financial Crime
- Auction Fraud
- Computer Intrusion
- Economic Fraud
- Extortion
- Gambling
- Identity Theft
- Narcotics
- Software Piracy
- Telecommunications Fraud
I note that there are one or two that you don't have, and one or two that you have that they don't !
