I am attempting to extract the logical data (contacts, SMS, call logs, etc.) from a palm treo 755p. Paraben only acquires ROM & RAM, cellebrite only grabs the phone book, oxygen and mobiledit does not support this phone, does anyone know any backup utility that could be used to backup the databases and view and export them? Thanks.
Hi,
I have used NVBackup to dump the NVFS contents of my Treo 680 running Palm OS 5. I hear that the 755 is a 680 in a posh frock, but I can't confirm it will work for you nor what footprints it may make.
NVBackup by Alexander Pruss, http//
NVbackup will make a snapshot of the NVFS area on a running device and writes it to SD card as Palm\programs\NVBackup\(DateTimeGroup). This snapshot can be later restored to return the device to an earllier configuration. I use a similar program to backup/restore my Zaurus to avoid the hassle of rebuilding / patching my pentest apps when the battery dies.
If you choose the backup compression as "as is" you can read the files with a decent Hex/Text viewer. Output includes
Address book and recent views,
Blazer browser cache, cookies,, autofill(complete), bookmarks
Bluetooth devices, scans, pairings are best read in hex.
Calendar, Contacts, Datebook, Memos, Todo List
Docs to Go, recent and file search
MultiMail (Email), body, attachments, account preferences usernames (I'm still working on decoding email passwords)
Phone calls in /out, SMS in/out
and lots of interesting .Tmp files
Another option is to use FileProg.prc by Amit Gil. This is a file manager without sanity checks that will let you browse the Palm OS and copy, move to SD card or even delete system files. The first time I used FileProg I was glad I had made a backup wink
Hope this is of some help
