After some advice and recommendation please.
I'm looking for a piece of hardware that can monitor the power consumption of a device. There are plenty of these sorts of things on Amazon - but I'd like one which can record and log quite a degree of granularity over time.
e.g. I don't just want the average wattage for the day, but I want to know the wattage per hour for example.
Ideally I would want a device which can either can export data or can be queried programmatically, rather than having to read and transcribe from the screen on the device.
I am not adverse to a bit of electronic tinkering if necessary, but I would like to be able to identify the error margin that the device is operating within. e.g. +/- 0.1% accuracy.
Does anyone have any suggestions, ideas or comments ?

I believe you want (loosely) something like these:

Forget about the 0.1% accuracy, from this kind of devices it is more likely 0.5-1.0%, but this range of accuracy is good for - say - 99.999% of possible uses, and it is "tough stuff" used in industrial plants for a relatively cheap price.
Of course there are much cheaper devices, but they usually have SD cards they write to, and depending on the intended use it could be inconvenient.

Also be aware that the cheap units do a really bad job of dealing with power factor. i.e. they report the wrong values, especially with low power devices.
