What do you mean by over-engineered? Can you give an example of an over-engineered IoT device?

Are there secure IoT devices as examples for best-of-class security? Can small-prized products ever be secure without proper IMPLEMENTATION of encryption and security principles? Is convenience the killer in general as strictly security never is automated and super-fast?
That is (or should be) the actual scope/goal, finding SIMPLE, CHEAP, SECURE devices.
Every other day this (or that) device is the object of this (or that) security hack/vulnerability report, while many of them are very improbable to happen in "real life" or very difficult to implement/reproduce, they are a symptom of a general sloppyness (or lack of attention) to security for end-user or consumer grade devices.
Last one (this is potentially a BIG thing reportedly affecting 1,000 different IP cameras, and potentially over 120,000 installed devices )
