Secure delete files on Android phone?

I have sensitive legal documents I want to securely erase, can I fill up the free space on the phone with random data several times, and then encrypt the phone to make sure it's secure? Or would it be wiser to factory reset/encrypt/fill with data. I want to make the data is completely unrecoverable. Thank you to any help or advice.
