While I'm not going to rule anything out, I can't at this moment envisage a situation where I'd want us to move to a subscription basis. I say that for a number of reasons but primarily because it just feels as though it runs counter to the community ethos of the site (that's not to say that there's anything wrong with a subscription model or that it wouldn't work, only that on balance it's not something which sits comfortably with me at this point in time).

I'm not suggesting you exclude those who don't pay merely that you give people an easy option to donate to the upkeep of FF if they are so inclined. The other forums where I subscribe have a similar ethos everyone is welcome, and all content is accessible to both free and paid-up members. In my view this form of funding would be preferable to any commercial tie-up the fact that FF is vendor agnostic lends it significant credibility.
