Logicube Integrates EDEC’s Tarantula; Targets Chinese Chipsets

Logicube® Inc. and EDEC™ Digital Forensics have announced a technology partnership to integrate EDEC’s Tarantula™ into Logicube’s CellXtract® cell phone forensic platform.

“We are very excited about our partnership with EDEC,” commented Farid Emrani, Executive Vice President and COO of Logicube. “EDEC is the world leader in analyzing Chinese chipset phones. Our digital forensics customers are encountering large quantities of these types of phones, creating an urgent requirement to extract and analyze data and evidence from them. Integrating Tarantula with Logicube’s portable and intuitive forensic data extraction device, CellXtract, provides added functionality that will give law enforcement, military and government agencies an unparalleled solution to address the thousands and thousands of phones, including legitimate brands and white box, manufactured with Chinese chipsets”, continued Emrani…Chinese chipset manufacturers like Mediatek, Spreadtrum and Infineon specialize in “system-on-a-chip” (SoC) solutions, which has allowed phone manufacturers to develop new phones at an accelerated pace. Inexpensive white box or “knock-off” phones have the appearance and features of popular western-made phone models at a very inexpensive cost that makes them attractive to criminals and terrorists. The lack of industry standards for hardware and software make these phones difficult for law enforcement to crack and analyze. The sales volume of these chipsets has increased exponentially, making these manufacturers powerhouses in the industry. The market for these Chinese chipsets has expanded; the chips are now used in widely distributed branded mobile phones.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Logicube to integrate our Tarantula Chinese cell phone analysis system into CellXtract,” says Eric Ryan, President of EDEC Digital Forensics. “As a company dedicated to delivering reliable, innovative, state-of-the-art solutions for users worldwide, Logicube recognized the need for a single platform that could analyze both legitimate phones and the huge number of Chinese phones flooding into worldwide markets. This provides a solution that will give law enforcement and military users, who are encountering the Chinese phone problem regularly in operational theaters, a ruggedized, highly portable tool that can address the vast majority of worldwide phones.”

CellXtract, integrated with Tarantula, is scheduled to launch in June of this year and will be demonstrated at the 2012 Techno Security & Digital Investigations and Mobile Forensics Conferences to be held jointly June 3-6 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
