SYTECH, a multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in digital forensics, cybersecurity, training and consultancy, has strengthened its commitment to community engagement through a digital forensics workshop delivered in partnership with Futures For All.
Futures For All is a leading social mobility charity that works to improve access to career opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. The organisation connects students with employers, workshops and industry-led learning experiences that help broaden their understanding of potential career pathways. Through its programmes, the charity aims to build confidence, raise aspirations and ensure that young people are better equipped to make informed decisions about their futures.
The two-day virtual event, ‘Crack the Case with SYTECH’, attracted 141 pupils aged 14-19 from across the world. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of digital forensics, gained insight into SYTECH’s day-to-day work, and explored the career pathways available within the sector. The programme was designed to equip aspiring digital forensics professionals with the foundational knowledge and practical understanding needed to progress in this growing field. Across the workshop, attendees took part in sessions covering industry tools, data processing, analytical report writing and the collaborative nature of investigation teams.

A central feature of the event was a two-part “crack the case” exercise, where pupils worked in groups to evaluate pieces of conflicting evidence released over the two days. After completing their analysis, each team presented their findings to the wider group, outlining the reasoning behind their final verdict. The scenario encouraged participants to think critically and apply forensic techniques in a practical context, resulting in high levels of engagement from those eager to put their developing skills into practice.
The workshop also placed a significant emphasis on online safety, highlighting how young people can protect their digital footprint and how behaviours such as sexting and illegal file sharing can affect future employability. These discussions reflected SYTECH’s broader efforts to promote responsible digital awareness among young people.
Encouraging greater female representation in digital forensics remains an important focus for SYTECH, and the workshop saw promising engagement in this area, with 26% of attendees identifying as female.
Kassandra Bratt, Digital Forensics Analyst and Project Lead for the Futures For All initiative at SYTECH, commented:
“Engaging young people in digital forensics is essential if we want to build a skilled and diverse pipeline for the future. Workshops like this allow students to explore real investigative techniques, understand the responsibilities that come with working in this field and gain awareness of how their own digital behaviour can shape future opportunities.
“We are proud to work with Futures For All to provide meaningful, accessible experiences that help the next generation take their first steps into a rapidly evolving industry.”
