About Me
Eric Fookes is the founder and CEO of Fookes Software Ltd, a Swiss software company he established in 1996. He is the lead developer of Aid4Mail, professional email forensics software used by law enforcement agencies, government bodies, law firms, and Fortune 500 companies in over 100 countries.
Aid4Mail has been in continuous development since 2005—longer than most tools in the digital forensics space. Its engine powers components of eDiscovery platforms from Veritas and OpenText, and it earned a European IT and Software Excellence Award before most practitioners had heard the term eDiscovery.
Aid4Mail 6 is the current release. It is the first digital forensics tool to integrate AI classification and analysis directly into the processing pipeline—supporting models from Anthropic, Google, Mistral AI, OpenAI, and xAI, as well as fully offline inference via Ollama and LM Studio for air-gapped environments. Benchmark testing across 1,130 emails shows top-tier models achieving 95–97.6% composite accuracy without a training phase.
Other capabilities that distinguish Aid4Mail from general-purpose forensic platforms include cloud attachment collection from both Microsoft (OneDrive, SharePoint) and Google Drive, Microsoft 365 App-Only Access for tenant-wide enterprise collection, a Python scripting framework for custom forensic workflows, and advanced recovery of deleted and corrupted email.
Eric’s focus for 2026 is making the case—with data—that email forensics deserves a specialist tool.
