ISO 17025 in small labs supporting criminal cases UK

I work in a small Lab (2 examiners with one doubling up as the manager). We support Law Enforcement in England and Wales in Criminal prosecution for Intellectual Property Crimes.

The Forensic Regulator in her wisdom has gone down the route of 17025 (I know there are many discussions around this).

The cost, logistics and ongoing work to maintain this is near on impossible for a small lab like mine and with the staff I have to implement this.

Id be interested to hear from anyone in a similar situation.

Thanks in anticipation of any feedback

I'm aware that the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences have done some work around both the challenges of gaining accreditation, and also supporting small businesses/sole traders on this. See the following for some background info

http//www.csofs.org/News/challenges-to-achieving-accreditation-for-forensic-laboratories

These are obviously past events, but it is my understanding that there are ongoing discussions/support around this, not to mention they advertised for (and I beleive appointed) a Quality and Competence Manager in January 2017.

Full disclosure; yes I'm a member of the society (as is evident in my signature below), but no I haven't been involved in either of these 2 events/schemes, so can't speak directly to their usefulness. Still worth looking at however, I would think!

Hope this helps,

Ben
