I am currently working on a case where one message out of approximately 50 has either decoded or encoded incorrectly. I have screen shots of one party's messages and a Whats App video of the entire message chain as it was typed.
One particular message was sent 'Well lets hope those feelings etc'. This is observed in the Whats App message. The screenshot from the recipients device shows, 'Well lets hope these feelings etc'.Â
I am unsure at what end this error has occurred. It could have been when it was encrypted when it was sent or when it was decoded at the recipient end.
I only have the Video of the messages as they were being typed and screenshots from the recipients end. There are no forensic extractions from either device. No forensic examination was completed on the recipients phone and the Whats App video was backed up to the cloud. Whats App was not installed on the device I examined.
Has anyone ever come across this before and or could they offer any reason why this should occur. Any help would be appreciated.Â
