F3 Announces Free Digital Forensics Cryptocurrency Investigation Day

F3 is pleased to announce an upcoming technical workshop: the Digital Forensics Focused Cryptocurrency Investigation Day for practitioners, hosted by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in London.

This free, one-day event will bring together industry experts and practitioner insights to explore modern tools, techniques, platforms and methodologies for investigating cryptocurrency-related incidents. The day will bridge on-chain activity and wallet attribution with digital forensics methods, threat intelligence and open-source intelligence.

The event is aimed primarily at the F3 community and digital forensics practitioners, but enquiries from those working within the wider DFIR, cryptocurrency investigation and associated technical communities are also welcome to make enquiries for registration.

Date: Thursday, 29th October 2026

Venue: Hosted by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Stratford Cross, London

Overview

The day will feature contributions and insights from Addressable, zeroShadow, FTI Consulting and the FCA Digital Forensics Team.

The FCA Digital Forensics Team:

Input and operational perspectives directly from the host organisation’s specialist digital forensics team.

Addressable:

Dan, a digital forensics veteran with 22 years of experience at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Cellebrite, joined Addressable Investigations in May 2026. He will introduce and demonstrate the Spectra platform, using case examples to explore off-chain device and location attribution and demonstrate what digital forensic practitioners can achieve using cutting-edge investigative techniques.

zeroShadow:

Nick, who leads zeroShadow’s EMEA investigations team and has extensive experience in complex cryptocurrency and financial investigations, and Stu, an investigator specialising in cryptocurrency investigations, blockchain intelligence, digital investigations and Web3 incident response, will present “Tracing the Threat: Inside Crypto Incident Response.”

They will explore Web3 exploits, cryptocurrency thefts and real-world case studies, including The Com threat actors, demonstrating how digital evidence, threat intelligence and OSINT can be combined to disrupt laundering activity and support asset recovery. The session will also include an introduction to the zeroShadow Threat Intelligence Platform (zS TIP).

And more:

There will also be presentations covering the essential knowledge investigators need, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and technical and practical insights into complex investigations involving cybercrime and AI. These sessions will feature experts from organisations including FTI Consulting, Edmonds Marshall McMahon and Intelligence On Chain (IOC).

Interactive Feature: Addressable Spectra – Capture the Flag (CTF)

With UK cryptocurrency ownership approaching 10%, crypto-related artefacts are becoming increasingly common in forensic extractions, yet they can often remain unactioned within examination queues.

This hands-on session will demonstrate how examiners can act immediately, using Addressable Spectra to trace risk flags, identify transacting entities and conduct off-chain device attribution to link wallets directly back to physical devices.

Using simulated real-world case data, participants will expand transaction graphs and build actionable case files, with the aim of identifying live, potentially seizable balances before they move.

CTF format: Please bring a laptop where possible if you would like to take part in the team challenges. For those without a device, CTF experts will provide a full live walk-through.

F3 looks forward to welcoming practitioners for another technical digital forensics day and to introducing new contacts to the F3 community.

A Message of Gratitude

The F3 Committee wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the Financial Conduct Authority for its generous hosting and hospitality.

The FCA’s contribution of both the venue and catering provides a significant cost saving at a time when budgets remain under pressure across law enforcement and the wider public sector, helping ensure that the digital forensics community continues to have access to high-quality technical training and knowledge sharing.
