Call for Participation: Women in Forensic Computing (WinFC) Digital Forensics Workshop and Bootcamp

The Women in Forensic Computing (WinFC) Digital Forensics Workshop and Bootcamp will be held in in cooperation with DFRWS EU 2023 March 20, 2023 in Bonn, Germany and online (hybrid)

This bootcamp/workshop will be held physically and virtually on Monday, March 20, 2023, and is associated with the Digital Forensic Research Conference Europe (DFRWS EU), an academic conference in the area of digital forensic science which begins on March 21 and ends on March 24, 2023. The workshop is part of a workshop series that started in 2019.

Background

Digital forensic science is the application of scientific methods of computing in order to recover and investigate evidence found in digital devices, often in relation to computer crime. Digital evidence is increasingly important in almost all types of juridical proceedings, mainly due to the increasing volume and quality of digital evidence.

The objective of this workshop is to increase the interest of students and academically young researchers in digital forensic science as a career field or a research field. Another aim of this workshop is to increase awareness and appreciation of the achievements of women in the area of forensic computing/digital forensics and therefore this workshop wishes to be a forum to help women build their technical confidence and thereby attract more female researchers to the field. This workshop is aimed to introduce new people to the area. Talks will be technical but are aimed at novices in the area.

The workshop will include a sequence of presentations by women that introduce some fundamental and current topics of the field and allow for first-hand hands-on experience. Attendees may also present own work in short presentations.

Just like your current holiday shopping for last minute presents a lot of the good stuff has gone off the shelves already. You reach to the back and find the toy nobody really wanted but it’s the thought that counts, you stare down at Si and Desi’s Holiday Special 2022 podcast.

Please join these two as they lament over the year that was, discuss all the things they didn’t do but promise they will do them next year, query whether putting a NAS in the storage of a roller door is a good idea, and finally arrive at what they’re looking forward to bringing you in the new year.
