Atola Technology introduces a new Compare module and new web API endpoints in a new firmware update for its flagship TaskForce and TaskForce 2 forensic hardware imagers.
Version 2026.10 also includes various improvements in diagnostics, imaging, RAID reassembly, logical imaging, reports, network connectivity, and more.
“This update is one of the biggest. It features over 30 tweaks and enhancements across almost all TaskForce modules and systems, from diagnostics to imaging, from RAID to Web API,” says Vitaliy Mokosiy, CTO of Atola Technology. “We’ve introduced a new Compare module to help you spot the slightest sector differences and added the detection of the used-drive scam on Seagate devices. We’ve also improved our web API to improve automation workflows.”
Sector-By-Sector Comparison
The new Compare module searches all sectors of a source drive and its image (drive or file) and reports exactly which ones differ or are unreadable. It is also possible to compare disk sectors with a specified hex or LBA pattern.
It may be handy when the hash doesn’t match or when an examiner needs to make sure that absolutely all drive sectors contain a specified wiping byte pattern.
The comparison process can also be launched via the API using the new /compare endpoint.
Detection of Used-Drive Fraud on Seagate Devices
TaskForce’s Diagnostics module now detects used Seagate drives pretending to be new by comparing the Seagate Field Access Reliability Metrics (FARM) log with SMART values for power-on hours, model, serial, or capacity.
The feature was introduced following a known scam case where used Seagate drives were illicitly repurposed to appear new by resetting their SMART values.
New and Improved Web API Endpoints
Firmware version 2026.10 introduces a new /compare web API endpoint to control sector comparison functionality within automation workflows.
The response of the existing /check-task endpoint now includes only the fields relevant to the task and a new errors field.
The api/help documentation has been extended and now contains the expected /check-task responses for each task type.
According to Magnet’s State of Enterprise DFIR 2026 report, tool integration is becoming the defining factor in investigation speed. To support this trend, Atola TaskForce imagers, which have been compatible with Magnet Automate since 2019, will get three new web API endpoints in future releases.
About Atola TaskForce 2
Atola TaskForce 2 is a new version of the TaskForce forensic imager, designed primarily for in-lab usage. The new device has 26 ports, including four M.2 NVMe ports, and can image 25+ drives simultaneously, even the damaged ones, reaching a 25 TB/hour cumulative speed. TaskForce 2 has all the features of TaskForce, including RAID and damaged drives support, Express mode, and Web API for workflow automation.
About Atola TaskForce
Atola TaskForce is a high-performance forensic hardware imager with 18 ports, capable of running 12+ parallel imaging, hashing, or wiping sessions at a 15 TB/hour cumulative speed. Atola TaskForce supports automated RAID reassembly and imaging with a missing device, has Express mode for time-saving self-launching imaging, and provides Web API for automating forensic data acquisition workflow.
