MINI-TRACK: Digital Forensics and its Role in Security, Law and
Accounting

April 16, 2007 Camera Ready Copy Due: Monday, April 30, 2007The areas of Digital Forensics and Cyber Law have expanded beyond the
prominent role they have traditionally played in law enforcement. Digital
Forensics now is becoming an integral part Information as well as
Accounting and Auditing. Cyber Law has grown to include areas such as
Electronic Data Discovery, Electronic Data Destruction, and Compliance.
Recent laws such as the Federal Information Security Management Act
(FISMA) and Sarbanes-Oxley, require both public sector and private
sector managers to protect information systems and assets. Appropriately
collecting digital evidence when an incident occurs is fundamental to
bringing perpetrators of computer related crimes to justice and preventing
future occurrences. An understanding of Digital Forensics will be needed
not just by college students entering the various fields within
technology, but also by those individuals entering business, criminal
justice, law, accounting and homeland security. Currently, many
professionals in those fields now seek to further understand the use and
management of digital evidence.
This Mini-Track will address research and curriculum in the related
disciplines and intersection of digital forensics, information
assurance, accounting and law.
