Atola Introduces ZFS And LDAP Support In TaskForce 2025.11

Atola Technology adds system-wide support for the ZFS file system and LDAP integration for centralized server-side user authentication in a new firmware update for its flagship TaskForce and TaskForce 2 forensic hardware imagers.

Version 2025.11 also offers numerous quality-of-life and performance improvements in imaging, logical imaging, reports, and network connectivity.

“This firmware update is a result of our continuous work to improve our hardware imagers and meet the needs of our clients,” says Vitaliy Mokosiy, CTO at Atola Technology. “First, we’ve added ZFS to the extensive list of supported file systems. Also, our clients asked for the centralized server-side user authentication, most commonly Active Directory, so we decided to integrate it into the TaskForce user management system.”

System-Wide ZFS Support

TaskForce now fully supports drives and image files with the ZFS file system, which can be found on servers, network-attached storage appliances, and Linux-based devices.

Support includes diagnostics (‘File systems’ stage), imaging, partition browsing, and more.

The RAID autodetection module now applies its algorithms to identify and reassemble unknown RAID configurations with ZFS partitions.

LDAP Support for Centralized, Server-Side User Authentication

With the latest firmware update, TaskForce now includes an option for the centralized, server-side user authentication within its user management system.

TaskForce user credentials can be stored on a remote server and retrieved using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, or LDAP. In this scenario, TaskForce doesn’t keep user passwords locally.

Local user accounts are still available, too. User management can be enabled and configured for either local or remote authentication in the TaskForce settings.

Pinned Folders and Network Locations

For quicker access to frequently used network locations or folders, users can now pin them to the top by right-clicking the folder on the TaskForce interface and choosing ‘Pin’.

It’s a small but useful quality-of-life improvement.

Better Imaging, Reports, and Network Connectivity

With the new firmware update, TaskForce and TaskForce 2 have also received multiple other improvements:

  • Imaging: Optimized performance for multiple parallel imaging sessions and improved ‘Estimated time left’ calculation for damaged drives.
  • Logical imaging: Files can now be imaged from partitions that extend beyond the drive’s reported capacity.
  • Reports: Optimized loading of the ‘Home’ and ‘Reports’ pages, improved handling of missing files linked from reports, and more detailed logging when ‘Format to exFAT’ is enabled in ‘Wiping’.
  • Network connectivity: Improved error messages when connection to a network share fails, and enhanced Bonding configuration (TaskForce 2 only).

All enhancements and fixes included in the firmware update 2025.11 are listed in the product changelog.
