On December 5 Atola Technology released Atola Insight Forensic 4.10, a new version of software for the company’s flagship device, Atola Insight Forensic. The key feature of this release is the searching and viewing of artifacts in the course of image acquisition.It allows quick analysis of data from an evidence storage device during imaging, before it can be analyzed by a specialized forensic analysis software. By introducing this feature Atola Technology contributes to further speeding up of investigation process for forensic experts. This feature will be especially valuable in cases involving damaged drives, which may take long time to image.

Supported artifacts include credit card numbers, emails, GPS coordinates, IP and MAC addresses, phone numbers, URLs, keywords and regular expressions. The artifacts are initially displayed in a diagram, which changes in real-time mode, as new artifacts are found. The search engine is fine-tuned to eliminate false results. Artifacts can be viewed in a table, which includes the artifact location on the storage device and the context in which the artifact is placed. As usual, Atola Technology features are highly flexible to help balance the extensiveness of artifact search and acquisition speed.
